The Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) created havoc all around the world recently. The WWW was flooded with a number of documents on this new epidemic, and every other medical website had something to offer its users. One of the websites had something very different to offer- A Geographic Information System (GIS) map on the epidemic.

The Map powered by the ESRI GIS software depicts case distribution of the epidemic on the maps of Hong Kong, China and the World. The data conforms to that released by the WHO.

The website says that the map was created to "distribute timely information to the public regarding the cases and distribution of SARS around the world"
and to " help the community in raising its spatial 
awareness for combating the virus. "


The website is surely an innovative one and signifies novel application of technology in Health Information dissemination.
